MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. The Mount Roskill Road Board- met last night, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McC'ullougu, presiding. Deductions from Loan.—The State Advances Corporation advised that tiie deductions from the loan moneys advanced were for legal expenses, including holding tee. of ±120, from November 1, 1038, to March 1, KJ3U. The iinanco committed reeonunended that the last item be treated as interest, and that a transfer be effected recouping the. loan account to the extent of Al2i), this not being regarded as a legitimate charge against the loan. Transport.—The Auckland Transport Board declined to extend the tram terminus at the junction of Three Kings and Mount Albert Koads. The same authority agreed to contribute £25 towards the erection of a tram shelter at the terminus, the estimated cost being £W. The Transport Board also agreed to accept, responsibility lur one-third of the cost of repainting the shelter shed at (_;• cciiuond's Corner. Implied RigliUs.— A solicitor suggested that in acquiring land in Cross Street, under the \ aluation ot Land Amendment Act, 1i.)30, the board could not free the land from the implied rights of way of some JOT property owners in the subdivision, nor could future rates be levied on the land. He proposed that a sale under the Rating Act, li/.V), be instituted and would. in his opinion, result in a clear title being issued to the purchaser. This letter was referred to a special committee with power to act.

Pedestrian Crossings.—Reporting ou a complaint of disregard 'by motorists of pedestrian crossings near Dominion Road School, the inspector stated that the crossings were patrolled by two boys holding Hags when the children were entering and leaving the school grounds. They stood on one side of the road only. They would render more effective service, he saui, if they stood one at each end and watched the tnillic coming on his right. In regard to the conduct of motorists, the inspector said he did not see any cases of disregard of the right of pedestrians -while crossing, although several instances occurred where it was obvious that the driver -was unaware ot the croseing until almost on it. The inspector suggested that further signs should be painted on the roadway about a chain distant, from the crossing, with the words "Slow, crossing," and a wavy line ahead to draw the driver's attention to the fact. The report further stated 'that .in Dominion Road many of the tramcars pulled up and waited to set down and pick up passengers just beyond the crossing, which had the effect of blocking the vision of motorists travelling north, making it impossible to see pedestrians crossing from the school side. The Transport Board is to be asked to instruct their motormen to go right down to the white line at the end of the track.

Health Report.—There had been marked improvement in sanitation throughout the district, said the health inspector in his annual report to the .board. This had reduced the number of infectious disease cases notified. The collection of house-hold refuse had .been 'carried out in a satisfactory manner toy the contractor, and there had been <a great improvement at the sanitary tin. Periodical inspection of Maori and Chinese premises were made, and these people are now living under more hygienic conditions.
