AUDIT INSPECTOR.
TRIBUTES TO SERVICES. MR. H. WYLIE'S RETIREMENT. A tribute to the services rendered in the public interest by Mr. H. Wylie, who is to retire shortly from the position of chief Government audit inspector at Auckland, was paid at the monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council yesterday. The chairman, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., said that highly efficient service had been given by Mr. Wylie in his long career in the Audit Department, and both the local bodies and the public had benefited. Mr. H. P. Garland, a member of the council, and the county clerk, Mr. A. P. Day, also spoke of ihe courtesy and efficiency of Mr. Wylie, and a motion .was carried recording the council's appreciation of the manner in which the retiring official had carried out his duties. Mr. Wylie was born at Pukekohe and joined the Government Insurance Department in Wellington in 1595. He came to Auckland as a cadet in the same Department but in 1000 returned to Wellington. Seven years later, when the audit office began to increase its staff, he accepted a transfer. After two years as auditor of the revenue branch of the Railway Department, Mr. Wylie was transferred to Auckland as inspector in 1900. He has remained here ever since.
