WORK AT TAKANINI.

SOME SMART SPRINTS RECORDED.

The outside grass and the plough were in use at Takanini this morning for fast work, horses being sent the reverse way round in view of the Waikato meeting, which opens on Saturday. The going was excellent and some good sprints were recorded. Rey Lu (Smith) »i.d Silver Glow (Beguley) were on terms at the end of six furlongs in 1.18, and although neither couidjhave improved much on the time, both worked well. Te Poto (Coleman) hit out pleasingly over half a mile in 50s, while Laj) Up (Ray) concluded the last two furlongs of his work in 275. Round Up (Clark) and Valamito (Co-llett) were sent seven furlongs, Valamito finishing the better of the pair, being a length in front at the finish in 1.30. Gladynev (Smith) got three lengths' start on Princess Val (Coleman) at the commencement of half a mile and maintained the advantage to the finish in 4&, 4-ss. Full Hand (Collett) completed a similar distance in 50s and did his work well. Brazilian (Hatwell) and Pleuron (Beguley) were sent five furlongs from the mile post, the pair finishing together in I.3—a good effort on the part of both horses. Gamos (Smith) and Lady Fox (Bartle) ran half a mile in 51 3-os, Gamos being a length in front at the finish. Inver (Coleman) showed dash while runnins six furlongs in 1.16, and Jack Tar (Smith) was responsible for the best seven furlongs of the morning, completing the distance in 1.29, the last six taking 1.16. Bachelor King (Bartle) was a length in front of Dauber (Beguley) at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Our Jean (E. Clifford) ran three furlongs from the six to the three in 375, and was. being eased up to complete half a mile in 51 2-ss. She is looking particularly well. Miss Eureka (E. Clifford) covered three furlongs in 37 2-ss, while Esquire finished strongly over the concluding stages of his work. Ivy Willonyx (Smith) and Parquet (Quedley) were on terras at the end of seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5, and Bon Star (Quedley) defeated Royevrus (E. Clifford) by three lengths over five furlongs from the mile post in 1.3. However, Bon Star was in receipt of a good deal of weight and got much the better of the start. Mia Acrea (Stratton) hit out well while running seven furlongs on the plough in 1.34 2-5, while Estro completed the last half mile of her work on the same track in 595, Veritable (Stratton) doing a similar ta6k easily in 58s.
