BOXERS IN : TRAINING. HOPES OP RECORD SEASON - TED CAUGHEY'S NEW G-YM. The keenness of Auckland boxers, many of whom are already in training at the different gymnasiums round the city, promises well for the coming season which is expected to open in shout two months time. Last year there was a great revival of public interest, and this season, with the approach of the centennial sports to give as-additional stimulus, new records are expected. A healthy sign was the opening last week of a fine new gym. by one ot tne leading trainers, Ted Caughey, at the .Hall of Commerce, High Street. Jack Rainsford, whom he has taken on as. an Instructor, should be able to do a lot for. the young boxers, as he is a former Jignt-heavy-weight champion of Australia. Un the opening night Rainsford gave a demonstration of training methods and Willi the assistance:"of Maurice McHugh, New Zealand amateur '-heavy-weight champion, ehowed the different punches. Later on in the evening Rainsford turned on a fast and willing exhibition bout with the wellknown local middle-weight, Freddie Butlei. The .McHugh brothers, and M. McHugh and T. N. Hill, Auckland Grammar champion, also sparred well. ' ■ At the conclusion of the programme Mr J. B. Sloan,. who was representing the Auckland Boxing Association, congratulated Mr. Caughey and'the memheis of his gym. on their equipment and the thoroughness of their methods as demonstrated during the evening.
