PRESENTATION CUP FOR COMPETITION BY ROWING EIGHTS.
At f'i meeting of the Auckland Rowing Association's executive arrangements were completed for the inter-club races on 'February 18 as rowing's contribution to the Physical Fitness Campaign. The officials appointed were:—Judges, Afessrs. C. G. Herdman,' C. C. Cairns; starte? and umpire, Mr. S. H. Buchanan; marshalls, the club captains. Mr. J. r■. Hooper (University) was elected to the vacancy on the "executive caused by the truster of Mr. L. Brooker to Wellington. A handsome silver cup was presented to the association by,Mr Karl V. Halhday, the well-known-Hamilton rowing .official, for competition as the association thought most suitable. The. trophy was accepted with thanks, and a motion earned that a letter of thanks and appreciation be _ sent to Mr. Halliday for his splendid gift. It was decided that the cup, to be known.as the Halliday Cup, be presented to tne senior eights for annual competition, in the senior eight oar provincial championship, and that the cup must remain m the Auckland province. The. first race % be rowed V the Centennial regatta to .be held on February 17, 1940. I The University's Club's request for the use of the association eight-oar l>oat for training purposes was granted provided that the boat be put into a reasonable state pf%epair,, subject to its present condition. . A discussion ensued .upon the question of when the lifAt-we.gi.t crews should weigh in. It was eventually decided to defer the question until if can be dealt with by an alteration-in,-the-rules.
