NEW LAND COURT JUDGE.
POSITION IN COOK ISLANDS

INVERCARGILL, Wednesday.
The Registrar of the Supreme Court and Official Aseignee at Invercargill, j Mr. Alfred McCarthy, has accepted an appointment as a Judge of the Xative Land Court for the Cook Islands with headquarters at Rarotonga. Arrangements are being made for Mr. McCarthy to gain some experience in the Katire Land Court in Xew Zealand before he eaile for the Cook lalande. Mr. McCarthy is a etvlicitor of the Supreme Court of Xew Zealand, having studied law after he entered the Department of Justice. He left the Government service in Auckland and went to Samoa in 1921 as Registrar of the High Court. Later he was appointed Crown Prosecutor, and later Judge of the High Court, holding the two positions. He returned to New Zealand in 1934, and eince then has been stationed at laver-j cargill. 1
