NEW POST OFFICE.
BUILDING AT GREY LYNN. TO BE OPENED NEXT MONDAY. Grey Lynn's new poet office, which has been built at the corner of Williamson, Avenue and Surrey Crescent, will be officially opened by' Mr. J. A. Lpp, M.P., Pnrlirtniontary Under-Secietary, on Monday afternoon next. Addresses will be delivered by th« Mayor of Auckland, Sir KrJiest Datirf, Mr. A. Ely, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Lee. During the course of the, ceremony the architect, Mr. >> T . Wade, will hand the keys of the building to Mr. Lee, who will officially declare the post office open and then dispatch the first telejrram to the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage. The new post office is of two storeys, with accommodation Upstairs for a staff of postmen, who will use it as a delivery centre for the populous Grey Lynn-dis-trict, and office and public facilities on the ground floor. The building has a total float space of 4000 square feet and has involved aft expenditure of abeut £7500. Ah entrance lobby on the em-rter gives access to the posting boxes and the stamp vending machines. Three slot telephones in cubicles are enclosed in the frame of the building on the Surrey Crescent frontage. Internally and externally the pest office 1* finished in tinted plaster and is provided with ample window etiace. In the basement there is room for stores and potittueti'a bicycles. Designed by Mr, Wade, architect, and built by Mr. A. J. Good, the building is fireproof and earthquake-resisting. Half a mile from the present post office site, the new postal block is more centrally situated for the are* served, and i.s close to the second tramway section.
