AT SCOTLAND YARD. Explosives And I.R.A. Literature Found In Raids. ATTACKS ON POLICEMEN. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 6. A raid at Ilford resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of gelignite and much I.R.A. literature. Two bombs are reported to have been discovered near the hangars and at the petrol store of the flying school at Rochester. A policeman who stopped to question two men was attacked and slashed in tlie face and a policeman challenging a man at Hendon aerodrome was similarly assaulted. So far no foreign comment on the bombings has reached London. A watchman last night found a homemade boiuti in the electric generating station at Titcliticld Street, London. It had failed to explode owing to a damp fuse. Fires occurred in Coventry shops due to envelopes in which had been placed toy balloons containing some nitric acid, which, after penetration of the rubber, ignited magnesium powder, causing an intense blaze. Scotland Yard is organised on a wartime basis and week-end leave was stopped. A thousand policemen are distributed over London City's square mile.
