CARRIERS' LICENSES.
GRANTED BY POST OFFICES. AUTHORITY TO BE WITHDRAWN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. _ Authority to grant temporary carriers' licenses may shortly be withdrawn from post offices, i At a meeting of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority to-day reference was made to this point by the representative of the Carriers' Association and also by the authority, Mr. E J. Pbelan. "It is embarrassing to hear of pirating going on and to advise the Transport Department inspector, who may have to travel many miles only to find that the carrier has been provided with a temporary license," commented the president of the association, Mr. W. S. Flower. Mr. C. Waymouth, secretary of the association, explained that temporary licenses could be purchased from country post offices "as easily as sausages." Mr. Phelaii said that the time would come when licenses would be granted only through the department's own officers.
