ROTARY CLUB.
DARGAVILLE CHARTER. AUCKLAND TO ASSIST. At to-day's weekly luncheon meeting of the Auckland Rotary Club, held in Milne and Choree's reception hall, the president. Rotarimi W. K. Lewisham. stated that the newest club in the Dominion, the Dargaville Club, would receive it* charter at the hands of District Governor Rotarian Geo. Hutchison on Saturday evening. December 10. It was expected that there would be a large attendance of visitors from Whangarei, Hamilton and from Auckland. A motor drive through the Waipoua Forest on the Sunday was-con-templated. The speaker paid a warm tribute to the members of the Whangarei Club and to the district governor for their good work in assisting to promote the new club. R. bright (C'hristchurcli), h. Langguth (Kotorua), T. MaeLennan (Hamilton). O. Williams and P. Walden (Dargaville), B. C. Peacocke (Wellington) and Rev. R. L. Cliallis (Vancouver). Dr. Francis Gwynne, a former member, was welcomed bacr. the c:\io. Arrangements were made for a concert to be held at the Evelyn Firth Home on Wednesday evening. The speaker of the day was Dr. A. K. Botts, who holds the position of geographer at the Cortland Training College, New York, and on exchange with a member of the Auckland College staff. Dr. Botts dealt with tho effects of geographical factors upon the habits of mankind, stressing the distribution of population and of the raw materials necessary for existence. He mentioned the methods whereby various nations endeavoured to meet the deficiencies in resources by means of tariffs and other artificial ways. From a purelv graphical standpoint, the of Japan into Chinese territory was entirely justifiable. The recent* AngloAmerican trade agreement was a commendable attempt to bring the countries concerned closer to their natural relationships. The vote of thanks was moved bv Rotarian G. S. Chambers.
