DAIRY PRICES.
FARMERS BENEFIT.
MR. NASH'S CLAIMS.
PROGRESS OF TOUR, (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVTLLE, this day. The largest theatre in Dargaville was too small to hold those wishing to hear the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Xash, last night when 930 found seating space and over 50 were turned away. Arrangements wers made for broadcasting to those outside.
The meeting was a personal triumph for the Minister. There were some interjections at the but the Minister quickly had the meeting with him. He pointed out that he had not visited the district to criticise the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coatee, and instanced the progress made by North Auckland during the past three years.
Speaking from the production standpoint, said Mr. Xash, he was astounded to find that the north was now producing one-sixth of the Dominion's production of butter, for which his Government were paying better prices than the farmers had received in the past 10 years. He said that the dairy factories were now distributing £88 of each £100 received in payment for their products compared with £85 distributed prior to the Government taking control. He added that some dairy farmers were too blind to realise that 16d per lb. to-day was better than 6d per lb. a few years ago.
The Minister is speaking at Ruawai and Paparoa this morning, and later at Pokeno and Xgatea. He will spend the night at Te Aroha.
