N.Z.'S "FAIR NAME."
CREDIT STANDING ABROAD.
Declaring that the National party was prepared to sell the "fair name of New Zealand" to gain any political advantage, Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P., Labour candidate for Roskill, said in the Mt. Roskill school last night that a campaign of "vicious misrepresentation" was in progress to damage the Dominion's credit at home and overseas. •
He produced a report in a London newspaper that New Zealand capital was going to Australia. The National party's methods of cutting costs, he said, included wage reductions. It had been declared many times by Opposition members on the floor of the House that wages were too high. He provoked "boos" and challenges when, in reference to road transport, he said the National party was willing to take over motor services without paying compensation.
