COSTS AND TAXES.
DOMINION OVERBURDENED.
"Not even a magician could bring about the increase in national income necessary to carry the social security scheme," said Mr. K. B. Tennent, National candidate for Otahuhu, at Mangere Central last night. "Even if one could raise the production of New Zealand to the £174,000,000 required next year," he added, "he would be perplexed as to how to dispose of the produce."
He warned his audience not to be deluded into confusing social services, which had been in existence and accepted as part of the nation's life long before the Labour Government came into office, with the Socialism which was Labour's goal. He said costs must be brought down to enable the farmers to produce at a profit. Taxation relief was also urgently needed.
