DEFENCE NEEDS.
PLIGHT OF DOMINION
INTEREST AT HAMILTON
(From Our Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, Friday
"The Dominion is hundreds of miles from the nearest British defence base," said Mr. E. Reeves, organiser for the New Zealand Defence League, to a meet? iug of Hamilton residents held in the Borough Council Chambers last night. Mr. Reeves stated that the position of New Zealand's defence was serious. New Zealand required a defence force of no fewer than tViOO men, yet it was problematical whether 2000 could be raised to take the responsibility of the entire defence of the country.

Tie following officers were elected: — Secretary, Mr. J. D. Hislop; membership committee, Messrs. A. W. Ward. low, W. 13. Pomeroy, A. McKcn/ie, F. Beelian, N. S. Johnson, H. C. M.
