AND THEN DEATH.
MAN KILLED COMPANION. NORTHERN RHODESIA CRIME. BROKKX HILL (Northern Rhodesia). (ieorge Black more was executed here —the first white man to suffer the death penalty in Northern Rhodesia. After a trial lastiug only 30 minutes on .July 18 last, Black more was found guilty of the murder of a young Afrikander. Hercules Albertius van Biljon. The Acting-fiovernor later declined to commute the death sentence. Van Biljon, who was known to have been carrying £75 in South African banknotes at the time, disappeared on April 17. Blackmore was known to have been in his company just before he was last seen, and on being interviewed he voluntarily led the police to an isolated spot in the veldt six miles from Broken Hill, where the body of van Biljon was found. Blackmore told the police that lie and van Biljon had been target-shooting with a rifle when he accidentally shot his companion.
Blackniore's liancec told the police that lie had shown her some money on the day of the tragedy, and that they had discussed a honeymoon trip to Filmland.
