SPEEDING UP MAILS.

TO ENGLAND BY AIR. COMMENCING NEXT MONTH. An announcement that by the middle of next month all first-claw mails from New Zealand to England will be forwarded through Australia and then by aeroplane to London was made ladt evening by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones. The postage rates will be Hd for each half ounce. In future no first-class mails will be carried across the Pacific, and in consequence the necessity for employing mail agents on the liners will no longer arte. The Minister stated that the first mails over the new Empire service would be carried early in July, but on that particular dispatch there would be a surcharge. The '•all-up"' scheme, with postal rates of ljd for each half ounce, would come into o|»eration about the middle of July. "Letters from New Zealand will takp only about a fortnight to reach London, and this time will be reduced when the Tamilian air service, at present the subject of final negotiations, is in operation." stated the Minister. "There will probably be further reductions in time with the future development of the through service."
