TALK ON FLORA.

VISIT TO RANGITOTO.

COUNTRY GIRLS' EXCURSION.

Yesterday morning an excursion to Rangitoto was arranged for the country girls who are visiting the city in connection with the educational week arranged by the Waitemata provincial executive of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union and the Auckland Federation of Women's Institutes. After lunch an address on the flora of the island was given by Mise Kibblewhitc

In talking of the flora of the island Miss Kibblewhitc explained the unique opportunity that it offered for botanists, for species were found on Rangitoto that could be seen nowhere else in the world. In the course of her talk Miss Kibblewhitc appealed to the girls to do all in their power to preserve native flora from destruction. She pointed out the immense harm that had !«ecn done in the past through ignorance of the part that forests played in nature's scheme of life and she urged the girls, as they grew older, to try and foster the conservation of native forests.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. •Tudson for her assistance in arranging tho excursion.

In the evening the country girls were the guests of the Workers' Educational Association Dramatic Club in the association rooms in Lower Symonds Street.
