SAT IN LAP.

STATUE OF BUDDHA. WOMAN PHOTOGRAPHED. PUNISHMENT DEMANDED. (Special.—By Air Mail.) COLOMBO (Ceylon), May 14. A deputation representing 3,000,000 Buddhists, which was received by Sir Don Baron Jayatilaka, Home Minister, demanded punishment of Miss Hollick, | daughter of a Colombo business man, I who was photographed sitting in the lap of a statue of Buddha.

Punishment of her fiance, Mr. L. Watt, who took the' photograph, was also sought.

Sir Don said tlie European community was as shocked as the Buddhist, and he promised to bring a bill before the State Council to prevent desecration of statues. 4 He said also that he was! ordering the Archaeological Department to rail off every statue exposed to the public. People who had lived in Ceylon for 10 years should have known better, he decltfted. The Attorney-General has not yet decided whether to prosecute Miss Hollick and Mr. Watt, but the general feeling here is that punishment is essential to prevent trouble by firebrands.
