MODERN SCHOOL.

INFANT DEPARTMENT. NEW GISBORNE BUILDING. OFFICIAL OPENING PLANS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. The Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, will officially open the new! infant school, recently completed at Gisborne on a site adjacent to the central school, at 3 p.m. on June 10. Built on strictly modern lines, the school marks a progressive step in education in the Gisborne district. 'The school has been built to accommodate 200 pupils in four rooms, which open out on to a wide sun porch on the northern side, where the full benefit of the sun can be secured. . The grounds are being laid out with concrete paths and lawns, and a concrete assembly court is provided, running the full length of the building. Ample light will be assured by the presence of innumerable windows and accordion doors opening out on to th« full length verandah. The inner walls of the class rooms are glassed above the levels of the blackboards, and the portions of the wall not glassed are oi plaster board, which also comprises th« ceiling. The interior decorations generally are in quiet shades to assist light ing. The pupils will sit at separate tableinstead of in double de.-=ks, this beinf done to ensure that each child will gel individual attention.
