DOGS FOR TIBET.

RESCUES IN HIMALAYAS. HOSPICE 16,000 FEET UP. (Special.—By Alt Mall.) LONDON, May 7. A number of famous St. Bernard dogs have left Switzerland for India where they are to continue • rescue work in the Himalayas. The dogs were embarked at Marseilles this week. They will be taken to the Augustinian Monastery at the summit of the Latsa Pass in Tibet. At the monastery, which is situated at a height of 16,000 ft, there is a hospice, where porters carrying the gold dust and furs of Tibet and other travellers are given shelter. Here the dogs! will help the monks, who have only a horn. with which .to make known the whereabouts of' the refuge, in their difficult task of saving passing travellers from the perils of the mountains. Accompanying the dogs is Brother Cyril, an elderly monk, who has been in charge of the St. Bernard kennels for many years. He has never before left his native |3avoy, but, despite his advanced years, insisted on accompanying his charges to their new home.
