SHORE LEADS IN RAIDS.
North Shore was on form on the home ground against Abels, and the win by three goals to one was well-earned- Shore had most of the territorial advantage in both spells, but poor shooting kept their score from being higher. Cameron, who reappeared in Shore goal after an absence due to an injury, was always sound, and Gerrard and West played well in the backline Sale. Cronin and C. Walters were a good half 'division and Stevenson, Haydon ahd Syme were the most prominent forwards. Sime fed his supports consistently, and Stcvecoon and Haydon; were always triers -when within shooting range. For Abels, Birchall's play was impressive. Kimber and Uoss w< re a good defence, and Archer was prominent in directing the work of the halves. Robinson, McLeay. and Hamilton were the most effective forwards.
THEIR FIRST WIN. After starting the season disastrously with a run of outs, Ponsonby pleased their supporters with a return to form, and the defence, which had previously been full of holes, showed a marked improvement. Haggett moved to centre-half, where he did yeomen work in holding the defence and attack together, and was prominent throughout in both directions. A. Watson, in goal, and Riggans and Masters in the back division, were not unduly bustled, and did their work well. H. Haywood was in better form at outside right and put across several good centres, while Mullane on the opposite, wing was speedy and penetrative. Farnan and McCallum were ngain an ideal pair of inside men. Chapman was nippy in the centre, but missed a few close-ups through over-eagerness. Hilliard put up a great defence in the Y.M. citadel and kept the score down, while Sims shone out in the back division, which needs strengthening to cope with senior forwards. Hurcomb, at outside left, was conspicuous in the Young Men's firing line, and some, speedy solo runs and accurate crosses, which mostly went begging.
