CHANGE MADE.

LABOUR SEAT LOST.

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL.

COUNT OF THE RESULTS.

Two of the Citizens' Association candidates, Messrs. A. St. C. Brown and J. W. Kealy, have obtained seats on the Auckland City Council as the result of the conclusion of the official count. This gives the Citizens' Association 14 of the 21 seats on the council, and Labour seven. A final check of the figures was made to-day at the Town Hall, adding machines being used.

In the provisional count last Wednesday night after the municipal elections Mr. A. K. Watkins, a Citizens' candidate, and Mr. J. A. Mason, a sitting Labour candidate, were placed 18th and 19th respectively, and they have now been placed 23rd and 22nd.

In the mayoral contest the figures of Sir Ernest Davis have been increased to 20,170 votes, and the figures of Mr. J. Sayegh, the official Labour candidate, have increased to 1f),689. The majority for Sir Ernest Davis is 10,487. "Tickets" in Evidence. Analysis of the figures recorded at the municipal elections shows that voting for "tickets" was widely practised.

In this connection a suggestion has been made that the task of an elector would be simplified to a great extent were it possible for official tickets to be voted for in their entirety, without the name of each individual candidate having to be marked.

The returning officer, Mr. P. F. Notley, snid this morning that if that were possible it would save a lot of time in dealing with the results, but nothing could be done without an amendment of the Local Elections and Polls Act, which governed the conduct of local elections.

At Wednesday's poll there were 52 candidates for the Auckland City Council, compared with 58 at the 1935 elections. The record number was at the 1929 poll,, when 07 candidates came forward. On the other hand, at the 1929 poll 24.000 electors voted, 37,274 voted in 1935, and last week there was the record number of 42,000.
