INTERNAL FISH MARKET. SCOPE FOR DEVELOPMENT. An emphatic opinion that there k> much scope for the expansion of the internal market for fell in New Zealand, particularly in the country districts, wag voiced to-flav by Mr. F. K. Price, chairman of the Auckland Fish Export Committee, in discussing the position revealed in the report of the Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee. "Until about 18 months ago, approximately 2.5 per cent, of the fish production in Auckland was exported to Australia, where it sold cheaper than fish obtainable by local consumers." he said. "Such a state of affairs was felt to be so undesirable that it was deemed necessary to arrive at some sort of agreement among the market interests to rectify the situation, and the Fish Export Committee all along ha<> been safeguarding New Zealand interests in that direction
"With the anticipated development of internal markets the percentage of exports will be reduced and the remaining difficulty that has existed between Australian wholesalers and tlie New Zealand exporters will be correspondingly overcome as exports fall within eaeilv manageable limits. However, a great deal cannot be done at the moment until the Government's policy is made known and the requisite national authority set up to deal with the situation."
