LOSES LICENSE.

AUTHOR FINED £25. INTOXICATED IN CHARGE. WAS RIDING MOTOR CYCLE. Admitting to Mr. C. R. Orr Walker. S.M., in the Police Court to-day, that he was in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor cycle in Lake Road, Devonport, last evening-, an author, Walter DA rev Cress well, aped 42, expressed his regret for what had occurred. Siren Sounded. Sub-Inspector Fox said that Traffic Inspector Finney, of the Devonport Borough Council, was driving his car along Lake Road, Devonport, about 6 p.m. yesterday, and saw Cresewell riding his motor cycle in an erratic manner. He decided to follow the motor cycle, and several times he endeavoured to get Cresswell to stop by sounding the siren, "but Cresswell merely looked at the inspector in a vacant "sort of way. Eventually the motor cycle was forced into the side of the road, and Cresswell fell off the machine on the grass. The speed of the motor cycle was moderate —not more than 20 miles an hour. Dr. De Clive Lowe, who examined him at 6.45 p.m., certified that Cresswell was obviously intoxicated and unfit to be in charge of the machine.

"Cresswell was truculent and refused to give his name or to carry out any of tlie tests submitted,"' said the subinspector. "Had a Few Beers." "I'm exceedingly sorry," Cresswell told the magistrate. "I had a few beers in Devonport. I realise it was a dangerous thing to do." Cresswell was fined £2o and his license to operate a motor cycle was cancelled, no other to be issued for two vears.
