The Christchurch carnival week is being finalised to-day with the holding of the fourth day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's spring meeting. The weather is dull, though fine, while there is an exceptionally large attendance. Cottingham Again. Sunny Blonde and Peacock were smartest to begin in the Suburban Handicap and when the field settled down Sunny Blonde was showing the way to Drink Up, with Peacock and The Surgeon next. Drink Up joined Sunny Blonde in the lead at the half-mile post, with no other changes, Cottingham being well back. When the straight was reached Cotfingham put in a fast run which landed him in front at the distance, where Peacock and Sunny Blonde dropped out. Cottingham held his place and won easily by two lengths, Drink Up beating The Surgeon by a length. Grampian finished fast in fourth place, just in front of Heloise and Windward. Cottingham carried £520 10/ and £519, Drink up £56 and £162, and The Surgeon £139 10/ and £342. Third Wis at Meeting. Fog Peak led out from Lord Nuffield in the Seymour Handicap, but Janet Gaynor soon ran past them. At the end of two furlongs Janet Gaynor was two lengths clear of Fog Peak, with Haerepo, Phalanx, Lord Nuffield, Epic, Nolan* and Norseman next. There was not much change to the straight, Janet Gaynor winning easily by three lengths. Fog Peak just held his place to stall off a lata-.ran by Noresman, while Haerepo was only a head away beaten into third place N tbe,la*t stride. Mulatto Studley Royal and Lord Nuffield were next. JHnet Gaynor carried £718 10/ and £758, Fog Peak £148 and £311, and Norseman £250 and £423 10/.
