WINGATUI TRIALS.

ORTYX'S EFFORT. MARY PRATT GOES FAST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUXEDIN, this day. The most pleasing feature of training work at Wingatui this morning was the marked improvement in the tracks and the course proper. For the first time since February two-year-olds were allowed to gallop on the course proper next to the raile. With a continuation of the present weather the going should be perfect on Thursday.

H. Cutte, who arrived overnight with Lazybones, Haughty Winner and Great Memory, was first out, but hie team wae only given light exercise. Great Baby and Invoice were worked next to the rails on the course proper, but were not on a timemaking mission. Both look well. Hanlon and Gaynor were eent six furlongs, only sprinting down the straight. Both look well after their racing at Kurow. Grand Finale wae going slightly better than Pink Robe at the end of seven furlongs on the inside grass track. After cutting out the first three in 39 2-5s they completed the journey in 1.34 3-5. Lor*d Nuffield picked up Combat after the latter had galloped two furlongs, and was doing better at the end of six on the grass in 1.19 4-5. Gambler's Luck just shaded Half ; Note at the end of six furlongs on the plough in 1.19 1-5. Lumiere drew ririht away from Pink Del over the concluding stages of five furlongs on the grass in 1.5. Natty and Sunny Jean worked together over a similar course, but were not extended to record 1.15. Gusto, with a mate, took 52 4-os to run half a mile on the grass. Our Pal. who had a long way the worst of the weights, beat Compensate by a nose over three furlongs next to the rails on the course proper in 37 2-ss. Vallock sprinted three furlongs on the plough in 37 2-ss, moving well all the way. New Note, also working alone, took 1.6 to run five furlongs on the same track. Last Link and Great Pal sprinted over the laet three furlongs of half a mile on the grass in 40s. The latter was blistered on the shoulder a few weeks ago, but is now returning to form. Araboa and Me Heath were sent a mile on the grass after running half the distance in 52 3-ss. They finished almost on terms in 1.43. MeHeath appeared to be going the better of the pp.ir. Alma was going easily throughout half a mile on the grass in 54 2-ss. Ortyx jumped away well behind the three-furlong disc, and recorded 35 3-5s for three furlongs next to the rails on the course proper. The fillv was heavily handaged on one foreleg. Mary Pratt ran the last three furlongs of half a mile in 34 4-5s on the grass. Norseman was rroing better than Toreador over five furlongs on the plougn in 1.12. Valantua was beaten by Brilliant Boa over five furlongs on the grass in 1.3 2-5, the latter moving very attractively.
