BORROWED A CAR.
LABOURER IN TROUBLE. "WAS IN A HURRY." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. Justices of the peace to-day imposed a fine of £5 on Leonard Frederick Martin, a labourer, of Ashburton, on a charge of converting an Ashburtonowned car to bis own use. The car had been left standing outside the Methven racecourse on Saturday.
Accused waa arrested at Cherteey at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. He stated that he was in a hurry to transact business with his employer at Fairfield and that he had taken the car after failing to find the owner, with whom he was acquainted. He added that he had intended to take the car back to Ashburton.
Accused, who was given a month in which to pay the fine, was ordered to pay for the three gallons of petrol he had used.
