MONTAGUE SHOW.

THIS YEAR OF CARNIVAL. COLOUR AND SPLENDOUR. The dressing in modern stage entertainment is always regarded as one of the outstanding features of a production, and the Montague Show in its opening attraction, "This Year of Carnival," reaches the acme of brilliance and spectacle in its excellent costuming of individual performers and ensembles. The gay carnival spirit which pervaded the show was evidenced in the opening scene, when the stage was radiant with the company of performers in pierrette and clown costumes of black and gold satin, alternating with bizarre show costumes. The cabaret scene was another joyous episode, the girls, being attired in white and cherry sftriped. satin- skirts, with white crepe de chine bodices accented with rJ _a bla/ck satin artist's while; quaint little bolero coals of blue velvet splashed in gold stare, made an effective Uncle Sam costume. Beige top-hats completed the striking effect. Exquisite in i'te conception and design■ is the rose ballet, which remains in the memory for its artistic beauty. Figured chenille with rose sequhmed bodices, befrilled tulle skirts and pink ostrich feathers, composed the lovely frocks, while silver wigs supplied a picturesque Victorian touch. Miss Margaret Kelly, as the central figure, wears a most alluring creation of pink chiffon and black godets, that is set off with flowing Paradise plumes on the shoulders and attached to the wrist* in intriguing fashion. An enormous Paradise plume forms a distinctive headgear. For novelty of arrangement special praise must be given the chess ballet, in which kings, qneene, bishops, pawns and all the other characters were handsomely costumed in rich setins and velvets, heavily encrusted in jewels, and gold embroideries-
