ESCAPEES SENTENCED.
TWELVE MONTHS' DETENTION (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
IXVERCARGILL, Thursday.
The two youths who escaped from the Borstal institution on Monday and were recaptured on Tuesday, Thomas Anzac Reid MaeGillivray (20), and Te Mata Waaka (19), appeared before Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. They were charged with escaping, conversion of a motor car, and conversion of two bicycles. The accused ; pleaded guilty to the three charges.
11l passing a sentence of twelve months' detention on the charges of escaping and converting a motor car, the terms to be served concurrently, the magistrate commented on the foolishness of attempting to escape. The other charge was dismissed.
