FIRE TRAGEDY.
OLD MAN BURNED TO DEATH.
NEIGHBOURS POWERLESS TO HELP
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
TIMARU, Thursday
A man aged 76, Mr. Emelies Warne. was burned to death in his hut at Orari this morning. When neighbours returned home from a dance at 2.30 this morning nothing was amiss, but at 6 o'clock they were awakened by the fire, which had too great a hold to enable them to enter the building. Mr. Warne was a carpenter by trade and had resided in the district for many vears.
