INCIDENT IN HOTEL
£20 POOR MAKING FIXE
A bricklayer. John Rowland Howe, aged 42, appeared in the Police Court j to-day and pleaded guilty to a charge of; carrying on the business of a bookmaker; on February 22.
According to Detective - Sergeant McHugli, Detectives Moore and Brady entered a hotel on February 22 and saw Howe leave the bar and go into an adjoining room. The detectives followed and were just in time to see Hnwe depositing some gaming material in an ash pan. Howe, who admitted luaving taken 30 liets ranging from 2/6 to fT and totalling £8. was only in a small way of business. He said lie was oirt of employment and took on bookmakiitg to try and earn a living. "A married man with seven children, lie looks aftej- them well, said Mr. McHugh.
