MAORI BOYS AND GIRLS.

WELLINGTt UN, Thursday. Approval of a substantial, increase in the number of junior scholarships available for Maori boys and girls attending native schools was signified by the Mil" ister of Education, thw Hon. P. Eraser, in a statement One hundred and seventv-four of these scholarships are now available, an increase of 38.
Junior scholarships, will Ik- tenable for two years at approved post-primary schools catering for the education of the Maori. In the case of "other tlian native school" scholarships which are available to Maoci pupils attending public and private, schools the nuiiilier has lieen increased from eight to 13 per annum. As these scholarships are tenable for two years, the actual increase in the number of "other than native school" scholarships'available is 14 (10 increased to 30).
Agricultural scholarships, tenable for two years, arc increased from four to ten, and similar facilities for special training of girls in the form of nursing scholarships have been approved by the Minister, provision being made for the award of five nursing scholarships annually.
The Minister has also approved the award of 33 continuation scholarships, tenable for two years by Maori pupils who have satisfactorily completed a
two-year post-primary course. This makes it possible for Maori pupils, especially in remote districts, to receive education from a primary school to the university.
