SCOTTISH WOMEN.
FAREWELL TO SINGER. Delightful musical items were a feature of the afternoon tea given in the board room of the Farmers , yesterday afternoon by members of the Scottish Women's Associations in hnnour of Miss .Tean Macfarlane. the young Auckland contralto. Miss Macfarlane leaves for Sydney on Friday next, where she will resume her professional course at the Conservatorium School of Opera. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames E. A. Barnes and C. D. Simpson.
Madame Dunn played a pianoforte solo, and Miss Hilary Eccles two violin solo's. Songs were sung liy Mrs. F. H. Hobday and Miss Audrey Boyle. The guest of honour. Miss Jean Macfarlane. was persuaded to sing three songs, and was recalled enthusiastically, singing half a dozen in all including—by special request—Sullivan's "The Lost Chord," and "Ombra Mai Fiu" (Handel's "Largo").
Mrs. E. Barnes voiced the regret of a large circle of friends of Miss Macfarlane at her departure for Australia, where all wished her a successful continuation of her musical career.
