MISS WILSON WINS AT ST. HELIER'S

,® 11 Saturday Miss D. Wilson (who won the ladies section of the same race last year) was victorious in the annual harbour race from Lady's Bay to St. Helier's for the Keys Cup. Thirteen members of the Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Lite-saving Club competed. Miss Wilson was on the limit mark, 10.15, and she touched the finishing rope much ahead of her opponents, having performed a steady swim. The competitors entered the water from the rocky headland at the western end of Lady's Bay, and went straight toward the rope close inshore at St. Heller's. The .distance was about 1000 yards. Splendid (weather prevailed, and the water, although disturbed by the wind, was not choppy enough to make the test too difficult for i the competitors.

The runner-up was a junior, Mark BeU (9.15), and the third to complete the distance was Miss L. Browning (7.20), the only other lady competitor. Fastest time, 20.7, was recorded by I. McChesney. the scratch performer, and winner last year of the Keys Cup. The next best efforts were those of D. Munro, 20.32, and P. Krause, 22.16.

The efforts of an energetic body of officials to promote swimming were well rewarded when a record crowd of spectators gathered at Stringer's Point on the banks of the Tamaki River at Otahnhu, to view a spectacular diving demonstration. W. Hassan, ex New Zealand champion, and George Berry, holder of the Auckland title, gave a splendid display. Ike Harp, of the Ponsonby Club, provided a burlesque turn, and Miss Lorna Plowman gave an exhibition of graceful dives. A number of club races were held, and in the half mile Tony Curry, an Intermediate, swam a fine race to beat Leo Dai ton, winner of laßt week's river swim, by Byds.
