TO RETAIN SEAT.
BOARD MEMBER'S DECISION. Ip compliance with the request of representative ratepayers, Mr. H. R. Maxwell, a member of the Manurewa Town Board, has decided not to resign his seat on the board. At a special meeting of the board on Monday, Mr. Maxwell dissented from a majority decision to remit £15 of the rental payable by the Manurewa Bowling Club for its lease of the board's reserve, leaving only £5 to pay for the year on a capital outlay of £1630. His objection was to the principle of the ratepayers' money being used to provide cheap sport to bowlers. Mr. Maxwell at that meeting announced his intention to resign, but the ratepayers who waited on him pointed out that his action in t protesting absolved him from any (•responsibility, but did not warrant the [sacrifice of his services.
