LIGHT WEATHER.

TWO RACES SAILED. WELLTN GTON WINS SECOND. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCEURCH, this day. The second race for the Sanders Cup was sailed at Lyttelton this morning in a steady nor'-east breeze over a triangular course of three miles to each round. The wind was a little stronger than yesterday, but could not be called fresh, and the boats carried the same three men a3 in the first race, except Auckland, which carried four men. The boats and crews were:— Auckland (Endeavour). —D. Rogers (skipper), R. Rogers (for'ard hand), A. Bell Booth (mainsheet), W. Parkes. Canterbury (Colleen), —W. Tissiman (skipper), K. Sillars (for'ard hand), G. Harris. Otago (Lynette).—C. Pettit (skipper), W. Manson (for'ard hand), E. Burt. Southland (Rawene). — Rt P. Gough (skipper), H. J. Gough (for'ard hand), J. T. Nelson. Wellington (Lavina). —J. Coleman (skipper), H. Williams (for'ard hand), J. Nolan. The course was from the starter's launch, moored off the end of Gladstone pier, thence round a mark off Payne's quarry, thence around a mark down the harbour near Battery Point and back to a mark off the starting line. The course gave the boats a lead on port to the <)uarry mark, a dead beat down to the Battery Point mark, and a run back to the Gladstone pier mark. The race started at 10.30 o'clock, the boats holding up at the weather end of the line, and at gunfire Colleen (Canterbury) was first away, followed by Endeavour (Auckland), Lynette (Otago), Rawene (Southland) and Lavina (YVellington) in close order. All set spinnakers well for'ard for a short lead across the harbour, but the sail was not doing much good, Auckland going off to leeward at the start. « Wellington Takes the Lead.

All set spinnakers to starboard for the run up the harbour to the mark olf tiie starting line. Times for completing the first round were: Wellington llh 8m 18s, Canterbury llh 8m 555, Auckland llh 51m 40s, Otago llh 10m 30s, Southland llh Mm 20s. All carried their spinnaker booms well for'ard again oif the second lead across to the Quarry, with Wellington still in the lead. Wellington Sails Away. Canterbury was picking up a little on Wellington, with Auckland. Otairo and Southland further astern. Wellington luffed around the mark at llh 15m ss. Canterbury llli 15m 455, Auckland llli 15m 50s, Otago llh 17m 20s. and Southland llh 18m 10s. After two short boards off Diamond Harbour shore. Wellington stood across for the Lyttelton side. Canterbury followed, but Auckland made an extra board inshore before standing across. Wellington again held better in the wind on the beat across, and improved her position again. Wellington rounded the mark at llh 35m 50s, Canterbury ljh 30m 50s. Auckland llh ,39m 50s, Southland llli 40m 40s, Otago lib 42m os. Wellington sailed very well on'and off the wind, and made a further gain. The second round was completed as follows: Wellington llh 44m 20s, Canterbury Ilh 4f#m 20s, Auckland llh 40m 225, Southland llh 50m fls, Otago llh 50m 455. Wellington again held lier own on the lead across to Payne's Quarry, and on the final beat out to Battery Point mark she increased her lead. After a long le<* across on the starboard Wellington threw round to port close inshore and stood out on the mark, rounding it at 12h 10m os. Canterbury following at 121 i 12m 20s, Auckland 12h 17m 30s. Southland 12h 17m 555. Otago 121 i 18m 50s. There was no change on the run up to the finishing mark, and the finishing times were: — Wellington, 12h 18m 275. Canterbury. 12h 21m Bs. Auckland, 121 i 20m 14s. Southland. 12h 20m 375.
