RUNAWAY MOTOR CAR.
ELDERLY MAN INJURED.
ACCIDENT IN OITY,
Knocked down by a runaway motor car in Wellesley Street West last nigjit, an elderly man, Mr. Frederick Ellis, aged 67, of 30, Brake Street, Freeman's Bay, suffered head injuries and concussion. The car, a heavy model, had been parked in Wellesley Street, and the owner had jtwt left it when it started to run downhill. Gathering" speexl, it swerved towards the footpath and knocked down Mr. Ellis, c who was talking to a friend at the corner of Federal and Wellesley Streets. Two other men who were "standing in the track of the runaway jumoed clear. Continuing its way across the footpath, the car struck a verandah post, which changed its course, and it eventually finished up round the corner of Federal Street. The St. John ambulance was called, and' Mr[; Ellis was taken to the Auckland Hospital. His condition this morning was improved, and he is not seriously hurt.
