DEPOSITS INCREASE.
POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK.
WELLINGTON, Sunday
"A review of Post Office Savings Bank business for the year' from January 1 to December 31, 1936, shows the total deposits to be £28,564.310, as against £24,972,362 for the calendar year i 935," said the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, yesterday. "The excess of deposits over withdrawals last calendar year amounted to £2.655,569, compared with £1,822,017 for 1935. The interest credited to depositors on March 31 last amounted to £1,406,459."
The Minister said the amount standing to the credit of depositors on December 31. 1936. was £54.900,000. compared with £50.800.000 on December 31. 1033. This was an increase of £4,100,000.
