TE AROHA HORSES.

KING MUSK INJURED. PROGRESS OF GOLDEN SHEILA. 11l her recent essays ill public Libra has again disappointed lier connections, more especially as her track work lias been very consistent of late, while she possesses undoubted pace. She is to be schooled over jumps, and may make lier first appearance over the battens at the Waipa meeting next week. Members of the veterinary profession were set a puzzle this week when called in to treat the well-known sire Musketoon at Te Arolia West. In appearance he was swelled up from head to hind-quarters in a manner not seen in the district previously. Under the skin appeared to be a depth of air, the body assuming a very putty appearance. On his neck was found a mark, as from a blow, and it has been surmised that the blown-out appearance may have been due to a germ. The horse was treated internally, and although the swollen appearance has not lessened, he is now taking food and appears to be progressing more satisfactorily, although he cannot be said to be out of danger. Although it is not yet known whether Mazir can see out a two-miles journey, local sportsmen are of the opinion that at 7.11 he has been nicely treated by the handicapper in the Auckland Cup allotments. The Whirlwind gelding is none the worse for his race at Ellerslie this week and should be able to stand up to a strong preparation. Mungatoon's chance in the Auckland Cup with 7.0 is being generally discussed here, especially by those who consider lie should soon be at the top of his form. The Musketoon gelding is not good on a hard or very soft track, and has always galloped best on a turf devoid of sting. Jt is quite likely that the Ellerslie track on Boxing Day may be to his liking. The improvement effected in Impasto by H. Eva in a few weeks was amply proved at Te Rapa and Ellerslie. After the coming holiday meetings it is probable the High Art gelding may be competing over middle distances. Since his first outing in public at the Waikato meeting Black Musk appears to liav ? improved. He is to compete in the Waipa Plate on Saturday week, and if lie leaves the barrier with the field is likely to run a good race. King Musk is enjoying a paddock holiday at present, consequent upon having coine into contact with a wire fence recently. He has thus been thrown out of work in the meantime and will not be a starter in the Auckland Cup. Solaria has brightened up considerably of late and will soon be at his best. On the tracks he is showing plenty of vim, and lie should run well forward in his next start. Golden Sheila appears to be better now than previously. Her winning gallop at Te Rapa sharpened her up and she is now giving satisfaction in her track work. A. E. Cox has Bonnie Song on the improve, as evidenced by the fact that she I now finishes on better in her track gallops. In the matter of condition she is better now than she has ever been.
