PRISONER ESCAPES.
MAN ON THEFT CHARGE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, "this day. William . Herbert Chapman, alias William Wells, aged 50, who was arrested last night on a charge of theft, escaped from custody at seven o'clock this morning and is still at large. Chapman, who was in the lock-up at the police station, feigned sickness and was allowed out for a walk in the fresh air. When the constable's back was turned he took the opportunity to make off.
