DANGER AT TITIRANGI.
Yourfcorrespondent, "Motor Cyclist," has done well to draw attention to the very dangerous state of Mount Atkinson Drive, near Koromiko Road, Titirangi. When Koromiko Road was formed far too-much of the bank supporting Mount Atkinson Drive was cut away, with the result, which should have been foreseen by those responsible, that after heavy rains the rest of the bank would collapse. This has now happened, leaving a sheer drop of 15 to 20 feet from a narrow, muddy road along which heavy buses and many other vehicles are driven at all hours of the day. It means that Mount Atkinson Drive is privately owned. It is in a dangerous condition, being all bumps and hollows, so that passengers driven along that thoroughfare feel alarmed about the welfare of tlieir internal organs or their heads hitting the roof. Motorists and pedestrians use the road because it is the only one they can use, Exhibition Drive being closed during its preparation for a scenic drive. The agents for the owners of the road have erected large notice boards, stating that it is dangerous and persons using it do so at their own risk, and there is a red flag 1 at the danger spot, where the road may collapse at any moment, precipitating a bus load of people into Koromiko Road with fatal results. Now is the time to remedy this deplorable state of affairs, instead of waiting until a dreadful fatality occurs. The powers that be should insist upon the immediate dedication of the road, the making of it safe for traffic, and its being put into a state of repair. It is to be hoped that the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, will take the matter up, for I note with pleasure that his slogan is "Safety First," and his "driving power" is certainly needed in this portion of i Waitemata county, j RATEPAYER.
