YOUNG PADDON'S EFFORT. SEVERAL HORSES SCHOOLED. (By Telegraph.—-Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. The going on the course proper, 48ft out, was in splendid order at Te Rapa rthis morning for the semi-final gallops, and several interesting trials were recorded. Star Artist and Rollicker were sent separately over six furlongs, but owing to the ground mist they could not be timed. Light Comedy hit out well over seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5, running her last six in 1.23, and the final half-mile in 555. Respectful finished a couple of lengths [ clear of Pliilemup at the completion of six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. Respectful is looking well. Dark Shadow finished a head in front of Sinking Fund at the conclusion of a circuit cut out in 2.7. They ran their first five furlongs in 1.10%, and the final half-mile in 56%5. There was little between Fockets and Stanstead over five furlongs run in 1.10. Adalene was a length in front of Gay Streak over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.7%, the last half-mile taking 535. Adalene was travelling well at the end, though she was in receipt of substantial poundage. Ford Acre and Tavern Song were abreast at the end of three furlongs in 38 4-s*. A smart five furlongs was credited to Young Paddon and Lornacre, who came home in 1.5 1-s—the best of the morning over the distance. Young Paddon jumped "off behind his companion but was on terms with him at the end. A Little England gelding in C. Moran's stable ran an easy five furlongs in 1.15, his last half-mile taking 575. Prince Colossus hit out f?eely over a round in 2.10, running the la6t seven furlongs in 1.37, and the final halfmile in 575. Steady Fire was a shade in front of Calcutta, with Mangukaha half a length away, at the completion of five furlongs in 1.6, the last half-mile taking 535. Steady Fire and Calcutta worked nicelv. Cometarian ran five furlongs in 1.11%, the last half-mile taking 575. Sir Tommy came home from the six-furlong peg in 1.20, the last half-mile in 555. Tosh was slightly in front of Orac, with Le Chasseur further back at the end of five furlongs in 1.6%. A number of two-year-olds and older horses were given barrier practice. The first batch to he sent away were Stisan, Pirate Iving, Tui Nui and Mangukowhai, the last-named running from the seven to the threefurlong peg in 555. At the half-mile barrier Raceline jumped out smartly to finish in front of Forest Acre. Malfroy and Trilliarcli, with the Bronze Eagle nlly at the rear. They Were timed to run the half-mile in 535. Royal Bachelor, Singara and Mere Haka finished m tnat order in a similar essay, cutting out their last three furlongs in 40s. The Reilly and Winder toams were restricted to pace tasks on the inner tracks. Several schooling trials were executed. Curlew (R. E. Thomson) _ cleared four hurdles in fine style,.and is in great order for his engagements at the meeting. Pace Whip (Winder) was also responsible for a good exhibition over four hurdles. , Lucidus (Day) was allotted a like tasK, but tie risked two of his fences. English Night (McLaughlin) and General Ruse (Ferguson) were associated. over four hurdles. English Night .handled his obstacles well, but General Kns dipped after landing over the third ience and nearly came down. Kanapa, Win!on a and Grand bc " re ; three of J.
