THIS MORNING'S WORK. i —* — SOME SMART SPRINTS. Weather and track conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning and all fast work was carried out on No. 1 grass, on which the poles were out sft. Most of the gallops were over sprint distances and some smart times were recorded. Kabbiform, who was first out, got to the end of three furlongs in 40 1-5, 5, doing it comfortably. Kilonsa (McTavish) ran six furlongs in 1.20 2-5, the last half-mile taking 51 4-ss. She was running on nicely at the finish. Speedfast reeled off half a mile in 51 4-5s and Salva was too good for Backblock over a similar distance in 52 l-ss. Tybalt was let off with an easy five furlongs, running the distance in 1.10 4-5; The two-year-old Huntingmore was timed to complete half a mile in 51 3-ss. Knight of Australia (Coon) and Horowhenua (Kearns), after running their first three furlongs in 40 l-ss, gqt to the end of six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. There was nothing between them at the finish and both went well. Illumani finished in front of Huntsman's Chorus at the conclusion of half a mile, which occupied 150 4-ss. Illumani worked better than usual, but Hunting Chorus was inclined to loaf. Royal Appellant (Cameron) was I going nicely beside Gay Broney at the end of six furlongs in 1.10 3-5. They ran the first three in 35) l-5s and it was a good effort. Fleetwind came home with them over the last half-mile and after losing a couple of lengths at the jump off was timed to run the latter distance in 50s. Carshalton sprinted three furlongs in 39s and the Muske\oon-Foxglove mare covered a similar distance in 40s. Jolly Dance (McTavish) and Miss Appellant (Cameron) ran tlieir first furlong in 12 l-5s and continued on to complete half a mile in 50s. It was an encouraging effort for novices and they put plenty of dash into their work. Arinacourt did strong work over a round. Psychologist reeled off five furlongs in 1.6 2-5, the last half-mile taking 52 2-ss. It was his first sprint since being reeommissioned, and lie shaped nicely. Valspear (McTavish), after taking 25s for his first two furlongs, completed six in 1.16 3-5. He was inclined to loaf a bit, and had to be shaken up towards the finish, nevertheless, it was a good trial. Jack Tar was going easily to run the last four of five furlongs in 55 2-ss. His stablemate, Round Up, put plenty of dash into his work while traversing five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. The best gallop over | i five furlongs was dtedited to Survoy [ (Malison) who beat Waitaka (Murray) !' by a couple of lengths in ],4. The li'st half-mile took 49 l-ss, and Survoy did his work impressively. Lone Flier and Lady Defoe got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, after taking 14 4-5« for ' the initial furlong. Bon Star was respon- ! sible for- a smart half-mile, which was | completed in 49 3-ss. the first furlong j being covered in 12 3-ss, Marjory Daw I was going easily throughout half a mile lin 53. l-ss. Vera Acre (Manson) finished lin front of All Irish at the | conclusion of seven furlongs run in 1.32 3-5. They i*:in the first half-mile lin 51 2-ss. and Vera Acre shaped better than usual. Gay Cavalier was given an easy half-mile taking 55 4-ss. A number of other horses were allotted useful tasks, but were not after time.
