SWISS DEFENCE.
HEAVY COSTS INVOLVED. (Received 1.30 p.m.) BERNE, August 12. Parliament passed unanimously rearmament measures involving expenditure of £10,500,000 to safeguard Switzerland against sudden attack. They include increasing the present six divisions to nine, the formation of special frontier protection brigades for ulefence during mobilisation, also a large number of machine-guns and the creation of light, mechanised units. The programme follows the replenishment of munitions and heavy artillery costing £10,000,000 approved last year.
