FIVE-DAY WEEK,
OFFICERS AT ONEHUNGA. A letter was received by the Onehunga Borough Council last night from the Auckland District Local Government Officers' Guild, asking the council to observe the five-day week for all officers, particularly the professional and clerical staff. It was pointed out that some local bodies had already given effect to the spirit of the recent legislation in this connection. The matter was considered by the council in committee at the close of the ordinary meeting, when it was resolved that having regard through the fact that the privilege of the five-day week had been extended to the outside staff, the request should be acceded to for the' inside staff as a trial, except in the case of essential services, e The office hours in future will be from 5.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Slonday to Friday instead of 4.30 as at present. The five-day week will come into operation next week.
