NATIONAL DOUBLES. AMERICAN CHAMPIONS. NEW YORK, August 31. At Brookline to-day, in the American tenuis doubles championship Allison and Van Ryn lost their title,, being defeated (j i U—2, (J—4, by Rudge and Mako. Ihe Davis Cup team had little trouble in overwhelming the veteran combination. In defending the women's title the holders, Miss Jacobs anil Mrs. l'ubjan, were also vanquished. Miss Carolin babcock and Mrs. Van Ryn winning the event, U—7, - —0, o—4.0 —4.
MAN GERE CENTRAL. There ivas a good attendance at the annual meeting- of the Mangere Central Tennis Club. The report stated that the past season had been very successful, and the balance-sheet showed the club s finances to be in a sound position. It was decided to withdraw from the outer suburban competition, unless the zoning system was adopted. Opening day was fixed for October 3. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. \V. W. Masse.v, M.P.; president, Mr M ,G. Kirkbride; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. Uennie, W. Banks; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. A. Taylor; ! ground superintendents, Messrs. M. liennle, W. A year of marked progress was shown by tiie report presented at the annual meeting of the Clevedon Tennis Club. Officers fclected at the thirteenth annual meeting of the Pneroa Lawn Tennis Club:—l'atron, Mr. \V. Marshall; president, Mr. G. B. Dixoj) ; vice-president, Mr. \V. B. Sutherland : club captain, Mr. D. G. McMillan ; secretary and treasurer. Mr. 15. Bartley; committee, Mesdames E. H. Bartley and K. Swann, Miss M. Taylor, Messrs. H. K. Thorp, C. N. O'Neill, A. I'. Grant, K. J. Clark and G. Taylor ; auditor, Mr. H. 11. Bray; delegates to the Thames Valley TjUivii Tennis Association, Messrs. G. B. Dixon, D. G. McMillan, H. Thorp, E. H. Bartley. The annual report recorded a membership of 78. The number of male members ufis the lowest since 1927. The club had had a successful season. The A team had retained the Thames Valley Tennis Association's Lawrence . Cup, having gone through tHe competition without losing a matcii. The B team, had lost two matches, and the Mills Cup had gone to Thames.
