NEW ORGAN.
ST. MARK'S CHURCH
DEDICATION SERVICE.
His Grace Archbishop Averill dedicated the new organ in St. Mark's Church, Remuera, at early communion service yesterday. The new instrument replaces the one destroyed by fire last April. The vicar, the Rev. P. Houghton, in the morning service said that an organ could be regarded as a picture of the universe. It was composed of many parts acting under the direction of a single intelligence to produce harmony. 111 the same way, the harmony of the universe depended on the co-operation of its parts, including men and women, with the great Intelligence whom mankind called God. A recital was given in the afternoon by Mr. Alfred Pascoe, when the following pieces were played: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Bach), CanzShetta in B Flat, Op. 167 (Rheinberger), "Piece Heroique" (Cesar Franck), "Romance Sans Paroles" (Bonnett) and Priere and Toccata from "Suite Gothique" (Boellniann). The anthems, "Jesu, Joy. of Man's Desiring" (Bach) and "Rejoice in the Lord Alway" (Wesley), were sung by the choir. Tho organ is the third that the church has had in the past (50 years. It is a fine three-manual instrument, made by the English firm of Lawton and Osborne, and was installed by Mr. D. Osborne. It has 32 stops, including a vox humana presented by the late Mr. A. F. Puckey. It has a number of modern features, among which are a detached console, with radiating and' concave pedals.
