ARBOR DAY.
WEI,LESLEY STREET PRIMARY SCHOOL. , . \ Arbor Day was observed at the Wellesley Street primary school yesterday by the' whole of the school. Seven native trees—one for each standard class and one for the primers—were planted in the playground. Prior to the planting ceremony the headmaster, Mr. ,B.' W. Hay son, addressed the assembled children upon the significance of 14rbor Day, stressing the great value of-trees to the country and to the community. . ■ • The first assistant, Mr. Green, then gave a series of lecturettes upon the several trees, dealing with their life history and their general importance. Two pupils recited short poems upon the subject, and then representatives from each class, under the guidance of the class teacher, duly planted the trees, whilst the rest of the children looked on.
