RACEHORSE SHOT.
DELAYS AFTER INJURY.
RIDER SQUEEZED IN FALL.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day
Parasang failed to rise at Cutts' fence during a school on the steeplechase •ourse at Rieearton this morning, and 'tis racing days were over. He slipped ;uul fell under the overhang of the feiice. ■■queezing his rider, X. C. Trillo, against the brush. After a struggle, the horse was on his feet, but his near foreleg hung limply —broken.
The rider fared better for he was only winded. After being carried into the trainers' room on a stretcher medical aid was called, but it was a matter of 30 minutes before a doctor arrived. Water was needed, but therewas no glass, all the available glasses being locked in a cupboard in the room. A tobacco tin had to serve as a cup. During this time the horse was standing fairly quietly at the spot where he received his broken leg, and spectators waited for a gun and the end, but the time went by and there was no official. A veterinary surgeon arrived without a gun, and there was little he could do. After 17 minutes there was a short report and Parasang was dead.
