COMMITTED PERJURY.
MAN ON SERIOUS CHARGE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Because at his trial on a charge of indecent assault, Leonard Keith Aldridge went into the witnees box and denied the circumstances alleged against him he sacrificed his chance of being admitted to probation, and was sentenced l>y Mr. Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court this morning to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
"Had it not been for the manner in which you presented your defence," said the judge to the prisoner, "I might have extended to you the benefits of probation, though it would have been an extreme case. However, the jury held, and rightly, that you added perjury to your offence."
